SPEED OF SOUND

DEFLAGRATION exploits the twenty-nine frames per second that make up video. The project originated by considering the fastest thing that could be filmed - the explosive power of the firecracker. Over the course of several days a system was created that challenged the limitations of the primitive camera afforded by an iPhone 6S. A rig was created that allowed for the positioning and simultaneous starts of ten recording devices. This apparatus allowed for variable distance and filter adjustments.

CONVERSION

What seemed like illegible footage in real time was taken into video editing softwares, footage from the ten cameras were then converted into stills and rendered as three dimensional topographies.
